COVID made me do it. We all find ourselves with more time than we could have ever imagined, but do we have more time? Between teaching, cooking, cleaning, entertaining tiny humans, all the goals I had set for this undetermined downtime had been slow to start.
My personal/business COVID goal list looked something like this:
- Take an online course
- Refine my workflow
- Catch up on blogging
- Catch up posting on business social media
- Update my gallery walls in my home
- Put Jeans on once a week
- Run 4 miles every morning
Last week the kids had spring break at home, so without having to homeschool, I was finally able to check a few items off the list. Two courses where tackled! Camera Fundamentals course which was a nice refresher AND course in retouching. I really enjoyed learning from Patrick. I picked up so many new tricks that could be a whole blog post in itself.
Number 3.Catch up on blogging sessions. What process! Searching through my archives made me realize how important number 2 on the list is. Although I thought I had my workflow down to a science, overlooking the blog was a HUGE misstep. Looking through sessions and critiquing past work was actually enjoyable. Now I have a action plan to share two past sessions a week. Which will have me caught up in early June.
As we start week 5 of “Staying Home” I plan to keep chipping away at the list. I am hopeful that when this is finally over, my small busieness will be refined well-oiled machine, my skills a little sharper, those 4 daily miles a little easier.
My heart has been breaking being forced into taking time off. These goals hopefully will make my clients who have to wait even happier when we are able to document their moments. A better business owner, a better photographer and a more skilled editor.
What has COVID made you do? Tell me in the comments below and let’s stay connected.

This sweet little milestone session of Ava and her mother Aoife has been long overdue. Shot in late summer of 2019 in my natural light studio, Aofie purchased Ava’s romper on Amazon which I quickly purchased for the studio.
